Bush Signs Anti-Piracy Bill

President Bush on Monday signed a bill aiming to beef up U.S. enforcement efforts to stop the sale of pirated or counterfeited movies, music, drugs and software. [via the WSJ]

"The legislation is important to pharmaceutical companies, software producers and media content companies such as music and movie studios and television broadcasters.

"By becoming law, the PRO-IP Act sends the message to [intellectual property] criminals everywhere that the U.S. will go the extra mile to protect American innovation," said U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue.

Some public interest groups are still uncomfortable with the bill, saying it would lead to unintended harm."
