From Myspace to YouTube, a killer's new forum
An interesting article written by Dr Joseph Diaz, an associate professor of criminal justice at Wayne State College, Nebraska, for The Telegraph following yesterday's tragic massacre in a Finnish high school.
"Killers who crave public attention have found a new forum in which to post their thoughts: Internet video sites, such as YouTube.
... The fact that it isn't censored and is almost universally accessible makes it an ideal forum for violent extremists, and others with socially destructive tendencies, to spread their thoughts, recount their deeds, and derive encouragement from viewers around the world.
We may have indeed found the first truly "free press" in the form of the internet, and through it we see a side of humanity that has, for the first time, been given a captive audience.
