Buying on TV thanks to your remote control

Tech Yahoo reports on HD DVD's experimenting with a new system to let viewers shop over the internet using their TV and a regular remote control.

"The first title to offer the feature will be the Evan Almighty HD DVD, available this Tuesday, which will contain a simple Web browser that connects to Universal's online store, enabling viewers to buy environmentally-sensitive merchandise (like recycled toilet paper) in keeping with the film's green theme.

The big challenge, of course, will be getting people to complete transactions and enter credit card information, shipping address, and more using only a remote control.

... Developers hope next to reach contractual agreements with actors to let shoppers buy apparel and other props that appear in the film as they watch the movie, with "pop up" tags letting you buy what you like."
