Is the PC the new TV? Down the road will we still need a TV set?

Om Malik on GigaOM wondering if "TV is the new PC", asks his readers to vote yes or no, if they will replace their TV more often than their PC. As in the past, consumers replaced their PC’s every 3 years and their televisions roughly every decade.

But with more and more people watching TV on their computers, I wonder if the question should not be Is "The PC the new TV?", and will the day come when we no longer need television sets at all? We've already given up our landlines for our cell phones.

The future may be a living room with family members each watching the TV program of their choice, each on their own computer - and no longer at the mercy of the channel changing zapping person of the family.
