Phase Two of ‘World in Your Hand’ themed Landmark Statue marketing

20061212img_l_2006_12_12.jpg Esato reports that Samsung has started a second phase of its innovative "World in Your Hand" themed Landmark Statue marketing.

This blog reported on the previous campaign in airports around the world, and actually always wondered if it was a such good idea, as cell phone models change so much.

So, this explains it, there was a phase two in the works.

"Samsung kicks off the second-phase of the sculpture initiative with the recent installation of its new hand sculpture at the center of Taipei, Taiwan.

Samsung plans to have new installations at the gateways of international airports around the world, including Hong Kong, Cairo of Egypt, and Istanbul of Turkey.

The second phase hand sculpture reaches up to 50 feet in height.

The mobile screen on the new sculptures will feature LEDs to feature a variety of information, such as time, temperature, video displays, and messages.

Vibrant colors add an artistic touch to the hand itself to represent and capture the difference in humans, and the colors come together to represent unity as the fingers come together to cradle the phone.

This conveys Samsung’s broader philosophy that separation and differences between people will be unified through communication.

The sculpture is in association with the world famous artist Frederic Bruly Bouabre, an artist of Ivory Coast, and his artwork “Generous Hand in Rainbow Colors."

Dallas International airport gets Samsung Cell Phone Sculpture

200507240007.jpg The newly completed Terminal D at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, is the latest showcase for the giant Samsung cell phone sculpture, already present in other airports around the world (Paris, Johannesburg, Dubai, Athens, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Incheon, Dallas, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Sydney, Bangkok...). [via Digital Chosunilbo]

There's no mention whether this sculpture actually works, like the one at the Central World Plaza in Bangkok, where the giant phone features an enlarged LED bulletin board that displays messages and announcements sent by any member of the public

Samsung's Hand Takes Hold of International Airports

samsung_airport.jpg Following last week's post on Samsung unveiling in Thailand of a six-metre statue in honor of the cell phone - which by the way - actually works. It's enlarged LED bulletin board displays text messages and announcements sent by anyone passing by - Telecoms Korea reports that 15 new sculptures are to appear this month at other airports, which will bring the total number of sculptures to 26 by the end of this year (since 2002)

Some of the airports: Paris, Johannesburg, Dubai, Athens, Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Incheon, Dallas, Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Sydney, Bangkok.

By year end: New York, Beijing and Moscow.

What's not clear is whether the Bangkok sculpture is the only one that allows passers-by to send text messages to it which are then displayed on a LED bulletin board, or whether all the scultpures have this feature.

Six-metre cellphone tribute_and it works

180605_bus03.jpg Samsung yesterday unveiled a 40-million-baht ($973'000) statue to honour the mobile telephone in Thailand, a six-metre, plastic and steel representation of an open human hand holding a phone handset, reports The Bangkok Post.

"Samsung, which has built similar landmarks in at least nine other countries, put the statue outside the Central World Plaza in Bangkok.

The phone on the hand of the 3-by-3-by-6-metre statue is a replica of Samsung's latest flagship handset, the D500. The giant phone features an enlarged LED bulletin board that displays messages and announcements sent by any member of the public.

The 2,800-kg statue will serve as an information board, providing major currency exchange rates and local time checks after the novelty of personal SMS texting wears off.

"With the diverse functionalities in a handset, mobile phone users can access any information from the mobile Internet, wherever they are and whenever they wish." said Tae-Bong Choi, managing director for Thailand business operations of Thai Samsung Electronics at the unveiling.

He added the statue has become a symbol of Samsung's global presence, and reflected consumer acceptance and trust in the Samsung brand worldwide.

"The uniquely designed building is attracting attention from passers-by with its reflective surfaces. The so-called "T-Tower," tapers to a blunt edge with an unusual kink at the level of the 27th floor in visual mimicry of a cellular phone.

SK Group said that they decided to design the building in a form of a mobile phone because it will be occupied by its affiliate, SK Telecom.

T-Tower stands 33 floors above ground level and extends six floors beneath street level. It was designed by Hong Kong-based architecture company RAD, which is responsible for the exterior of Seoul's Sheraton Walkerhill Hotel."

Spectra-txt sculpture by Peter Freeman

cleveland.jpg A spectacular mobile phone operated light sculpture by a Penzance artist has become the centrepiece of a Cleveland town, according to the BBC.

"Spectra-txt, unveiled in Middlesbrough last week, is 10 metres high and weighs a hefty two tonnes and incorporates a light show.

And this is the clever bit: the steel tower has been designed to change colour when sent one of six special text message commands.

The colour can be determined from anywhere on the planet, linking Middlesbrough with, among other places, Tahitit - from where a special text message was sent as part of the opening ceremony."

Interact with Spectra-txt by texting one of the following commands to this number: 07919 00 00 77.

Some previous greater than life SMS projects, involving world participation:

-- The Hello World Project - During the course of the UN's World Summit on the Information Society held in Geneva in December 2004, people from all over the world were be able to send in text messages, which were be projected almost instantly by a laser beam on mountains and buildings in Mumbai (Marine Drive), Rio de Janeiro (Morro dois Irmaos Mountain), New York (UN building) and lake Geneva's "Jet d'eau"(water fountain).

-- Amodal Suspension - Short text messages sent by people over the Internet or by cell phone will be converted into patterns of flashing lights in the sky, turning the Japanese city of Yamaguchi into a giant communication switchboard. cf Amodal Suspension.

-- hellomrpresident - In 2001 people sent messages to Davos during the World Economic Forum's annual conference. A laser projector beamed the text messges onto the mountain side overlooking the famous ski resort, so that they could be seen by the hundreds of journalists and thousands of people from all over the world.
