Bamboo mobile phone to be launched by British student

A 23-year-old design student from Middlesex University is to launch a mobile phone made largely from bamboo. The Telegraph reports.

The new smartphone, called ‘ADzero’, is expected to launch later this year. Made from four-year-old organically grown bamboo that has been treated to improve its durability, the phone runs Google’s Android operating system.

The ScottVest started something called the "No Baggage Challenge" last year. Travel writer Rolf Potts went around the world in six weeks with no luggage whatsoever -- just the items he could slip into the mazillion pockets of his SeV jacket and clothing.

The NoBCs are continuing this year to raise funds for various charities. Now a sweet young couple named Jen and Marcus are going round-the-world for 90 days to benefit the microlending platform Kiva.

The Asahi Shimbun reports about how a cafe in Tokushima prefecture became famous across Japan after Twitter users discovered its iPhone cookies: [via Japan Probe]

Kudo said the idea for the biscuits came from one of her customers, who asked her to make a look-a-like of the iPod touch media player for her husband’s birthday gift in October 2008.

Kudo mistook the gadget for the very similar iPhone, which had just appeared on the market, but the customer was delighted by the end product.

News of Kudo’s creation did not spread widely until a message on the Internet micro-blogging site Twitter in January by the well-known economic critic Kazuyo Katsuma.

KDDI introduces Light Pool fashion cell phone

Japanese telecommunications company KDDI has released a new phone called Light Pool which displays information in an ambient fashion.

On the outside, you’ll see a total of twenty-two LEDs in the shape of triangular windows arranged in a criss-crossing grid-like pattern. These LEDs are meant to display a touch of personality, lighting up in 100 different patterns sequenced with music. Patterns can indicate an incoming call, email, or whatever you prefer. The lights and sounds “rongupureimodo” were created by filmmaker Masakatsu Takagi.
