Versace to launch cell phone

VersaceLogoBlackLarge.jpeg Versace and ModeLabs Group announce an exclusive worldwide joint licence agreement for the design; manufacture and distribution of Versace’s first-ever range of luxury mobile phones, which will be made available through Versace’s network of flagship stores and exclusive retail partners.

The new Versace range will be to the world of mobile phones what Versace’s line of Atelier Haute Couture creations are to the fashion world.

The commercial launch of the first Versace luxury mobile phone is scheduled for Spring 2010. It will be premiered for select Versace clients at an invitation-only, private showing that will be held during the Parisian Haute Couture week in January 2010.

Transforming Phone Booths Into Smoking Booths

phonebooth_turned_into_smoking_booth_5301.jpg Spotted on PSFK, phone booths as smoking rooms. Redesigned by Dutch telecoms operator KPN.

Next Nature shares some thoughts on the transformation:

quotemarksright.jpgNonetheless, it is kind of fascinating that ‘calling’, which used to be constrained in fixed lines and locations, is now entirely mobile and it is now socially acceptable to call almost everywhere: restaurant, train, toilet, airplanes, operahouse, etc. While smoking, which used to be mobile and done everywhere, is becoming increasingly limited to designated locations.quotesmarksleft.jpg

Your DNA as iPhone Wallpaper

iPhone-wallpapers-spectral.jpg

C/Net News reports on a French company called Helys which is creating customized iPhone wallpapers featuring DNA imprints.

quotemarksright.jpgTo order the wallpaper, you choose a preferred hue for your genetic material and receive a mouth-swabbing kit for collecting a DNA sample. After you send some cells back, the company creates a 100 dpi image of your DNA and sends the picture along via e-mail a couple of weeks later.quotesmarksleft.jpg

quotemarksright.jpgCreated specifically for the style-conscious woman, the fashionable Volution Bluetooth by Chinese designer Fandi Meng merges technology and fashion. It looks like a gigantic spiral earring with a little red pearl in the middle. The pearl is actually a light indicator that shines when you receive a call. And when you do, all you have to do is tap it gently to begin talking. quotesmarksleft.jpg

Business Drying Up for Luxury Phone Makers

img_5476_goldvish_450x360.jpg After years of chasing the ultra-wealthy with exclusive devices that carry designer logos and promise craftsmanship from materials such as sapphire and stainless steel, luxury phone makers are now pulling back, reports Wired.

quotemarksright.jpg... In the last few years, luxury phones had turned into an attractive new business, as designer houses rushed to get a foothold in the tech sector. Prada collaborated with LG to launch two LG Prada phones in Europe and Asia. Last September, Samsung launched the M75500 Night Effect phone, which carried the Emporio Armani insignia. A month later, Motorola offered a $2,000 phone, called the Aura, which was fashioned out of stainless steel and sported a 62-carat sapphire crystal lens. And then there’s Vertu, a company that makes true luxury phones, the cheapest of which costs about $6,000.

The recession put a spoke in those plans. And it’s not just the 401Ks of middle-class Americans that have been in peril. In Russia, many newly-minted billionaires saw their fortunes slip away with falling oil prices.quotesmarksleft.jpg
