The Obama administration is being petitioned to make unlocking cell phones legal, following a decree by the Librarian of Congress which took effect on January 26. Under the new law an offender may pay up to 1,000,000 or serve 10 years in jail.

They ask that the White House ask the Librarian of Congress to rescind this decision, and failing that, champion a bill that makes unlocking permanently legal.
