'Texting Jacket' Provides First Responders With Critical Information

Emergency first responders have their hands full dealing with disaster, so there’s no time to check their phones for new text messages. But real-time texts could provide critical information about weather, location and on-going response efforts. Ecouterre reports.
Students at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology Department of Computer Information and Science have developed a texting jacket that works with bluetooth technology and an Android phone to provide hands free updates.
The iDisaster jacket displays information via scrolling screen on the arm and notifies the wearer of a new message with a simple vibration on the neck. Still in prototype phase, the student team’s work could lead to a new wearable cloud-connected system for first responders that could improve their response during emergencies.
