A wailing phone to ward off thieves

Design Out for Crime, a project by The Home Office’s Design and Technology Alliance Against Crime and the Design Council was launched last April to develop new ways of securing mobile phones against thieves and fraudsters.

The Telegraph reports on the winning entries.

-- a mobile phone alarm which emits a high-pitched wail if the handset travels more than 10 metres from its owner could stop thieves in their tracks

-- the Tie, which electronically matches a SIM card with its handset

-- the TouchSafe which requires an Oyster-style swipe card to make transactions on the phone
