Americans Pledge Millions, but Cash Flow Takes Weeks
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced Friday that the donations to Haiti have surpassed $10 million, and still counting. Erictric reports.
Unfortunately, it was being reported that the money donated through SMS wouldn’t be available until after 90 days because, according to the WSJ, "no money moves until a person pays their cellphone bill to cover the pledge". Luckily and thankfully, many companies have pledged to give the money right away. For instance, Verizon announced that it has already given the $2,987,560 collected so far to the American Red Cross.
Sprint, on the other hand, announced that it would immediately give 80% of the funds collected.
