Main to legislate over cancer warnings on cell phones
A representative in Maine is bringing up a proposal during January's session of the state legislature that would require warnings on devices about the alleged link between RF emissions and brain cancer, strongly advising users to keep the devices away from their heads and bodies.
Just last week, The San Francisco Chronicle reported that Mayor Gavin Newsom was endorsing a proposal whereby cell phone retailers would have to display the SAR* level next to each phone in a font at least as large as the price. Retailers would also have to provide information about what SAR values mean.
It looks like individual legislators are taking matters into their own hands with regard to cell phone safety.
*SAR = Specific Absorption Rate that signifies the amount of radio frequency energy a person absorbs into his or her body and brain when talking on a cell phone.
