Celebrities 'tweet' for Aung San Suu Kyi
As many as 64 Hollywood stars, politicians and former political prisoners from around the world - including Demi Moore, Kevin Spacey, Yoko Ono and Gordon Brown - have joined an online tweeting campaign calling for the release of the Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. The Telegraph reports.
Mrs Suu Kyi, who turns 64 on Friday, has spent 13 of the last 19 years in detention and is currently on trial facing a further five year jail sentence for allegedly breaking the terms of her house arrest. The campaign invites people to write 64 word messages of support for her.
"We must not stand by as she is silenced again. Now is the time for the international community to speak with one voice," Julia Roberts wrote on the website 64 for Suu, where supporters are invited to tweet, write text messages or send video and photos.
