The Air France Flight and Twitter

twitter%20airfrance.jpg

Unlike the US airways safe landing in the Hudson, eyewitnesses didn't break the news on Twitter, but when news filtered that Air France 447 flying from Brazil to Paris was missing, Twitter turned out to be the best place online to find quick and relevant information.

As of Monday, a search for "Air France" in the language of your choice displayed - without having to click through - the emergency phone numbers for families and friends, links to news channels from around the world, the link to Air France's press release, the arrival of Nicolas Sarkozy at Roissy airport, headlines to major media and as of Tuesday, the names of the first victims.

There were a few false notes - tweets comparing the missing place to "Lost", others sharing their fear of flying, or this one, odd: The air france plane still hasnt been found. Two words - Alien Abduction. But there were more messages of sympathy and prayers. Overall, as with every great catastrophe, the best of human nature shines through: Thoughts and prayers are with the passengers and families of the Air France flight lost to sea en route to Paris from Brazil.
