Shipper Offers Cargo Updates by SMS
Hyundai Merchant Marine said Wednesday that it will start a service that provides consignors with the location of their cargo in real time via text messages, a first in the shipping industry. Digital Chosunilbo reports.
The system sends text messages about the entire process, from when the container is loaded on the ship until delivery to the importer.
A Hyundai executive said, “We provided the information on the location of cargo via e-mail and fax or over the phone when customers called, so it took a lot of time, but we believe that the owner of goods will find the real-time text message service far more comfortable to use.”
