iPhone passes 1 percent of global mobile market in 2008
According to the latest results from market researchers ABI Research , Apple more than made its goal of grabbing one percent of the global mobile market in 2008. Despite an expected decline in mobile shipments for 2009, Apple is set "to continue [its] march to the consumer center stage." Arstechnica reports.
When Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone to the world in 2007, he mentioned that Apple had set a goal for itself to reach one percent of the mobile phone market share. According to data recently released by ABI Research Inc, Apple passed that goal in 2008, hitting 1.1 percent of the 1.21 billion global mobile phone shipments. That puts Apple at number eight out of the top ten mobile vendors, neck-and-neck with HTC and just ahead of Sharp.
