Send a cell phone text message to combat childhood hunger
AT&T is encouraging its customers to fight childhood hunger by donating $5 via text message on their mobile phone. The SFGate reports.
The program, inspired by President-elect Barack Obama's call for a national day of service, allows subscribers to donate to Share Our Strength, an organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger.
The way it works: AT&T subscribers text the word "Share" to 20222 and AT&T adds the one-time donation to their next mobile phone bill. AT&T will also match the donations up to $100,000.
According to Share Our Strength, there are 12.4 million children in the United States who are at risk of hunger, a number that will probably go up with the struggling economy. AT&T is also organizing food drives in 32 cities including San Ramon and Sacramento.
