France to Ban Mobile Phones Designed for Children

The French government is planning new laws which will make it illegal to advertise mobile phones in a manner designed to appeal to children aged under twelve years. The new regulations were announced last week by Environment Minister, Jean-Louis Borloo. Cellular News reports.

Borloo also plans to seek powers to make it illegal to sell mobile phones designed to be used be children aged six or younger. Over the Christmas period, the French city of Lyon ran an advertising campaign to dissuade parents from buying mobile phones for their children.

Finally, the government plans to make it mandatory that all mobile phones are sold with a complimentary set of earphones to reduce the exposure of the head to any radiation risk.
