Shortcovers looks to bring e-books to iPhone, others

Shortcovers, a new mobile book store from Indigo Books & Music, the Amazon of Canada, have submitted an app for certification to Apple and are awaiting word. The SF Gate

quotemarksright.jpgThe Shortcovers app will offer top books from major publishers along with smaller content, broken up into smaller chunks that readers can get for free or 99 cents a pop.

The idea is that people can get a whole lot of stuff for free including the first chapter of many new books. Or they can get news stories, speeches, poems or serialized content. If they want to buy a whole book, they can too for a book price.

There are some book apps on the iPhone already but they mostly deal with classics. Shortcovers will be nice because it offers the latest books in e-form without having to buy a dedicated reader like the Amazon Kindle.quotesmarksleft.jpg
