EU proposes taxing fanciest mobile phones
The European Union executive is planning to tax some mobile phones, a move that would mean higher prices for consumers, representatives from the wireless industry said.
Last week, the European Commission sent member states a formal proposal that has not been made public to reclassify some phones as "multi-functional devices," which would trigger a 14 percent tax on devices with television receivers and a 3.7 percent tax on navigation-enabled ones.
