E Ink technology used on clamshell mobile phones
Earlier this week, Geek.com reported that Esquire will make publishing history by featuring E ink technology on its September issue. The technology will allow the magazine to scroll or flash text on its cover for up to 90 days until the battery runs out. Esquire has exclusive rights to the technology until 2009.
Now, according to Geek.com, E-Ink is reporting that Casio Hitachi Mobile will feature the world’s first clamshell mobile phone to utilize E Ink technology on the outside of a phone.
"The Hitachi W61H is one of the first products to feature an E Ink Vizplex display on the external surface of the phone.
The phone was designed by Japanese designer SeKiYuRiO who fashioned the mobile phone after a perfume bottle.
The E Ink display is 2.7 and switches between 96 different images when the phone receives a call or message or when the phone is opened to use.
