Top French anchorman PPDA fired by SMS?

h_9_ill_1056370_ppda.jpg French TV's most well known/liked and long standing anchorman (twenty years on the air - since August 31st, 1987) has reportedly been dismissed by SMS, while texting with the president of the board from Tennis tournament Roland Garros. At least, that's one side of the story according to Paris Match, who photographed him texting and looking disheveled throughout the finals last Sunday.

As of September, Patrick Poivre d'Arvor, known as PPDA, will no longer be anchoring the 8 o'clock news and will be replaced by a woman, Laurence Ferrari.

According to Le Monde, PPDA sent out a press release Thursday, denouncing the brutality of his dismissal and claimed he heard about it along with everyone else, while reading the Monday papers.
