Me and my iPhone
While news trickles in of Apple's first iPhone's supply drying out: "US customers will only be allowed to buy one of Apple's devices per person, "the UK online Apple Store has currently no iPhones in stock", and rumors of the new 3G version to be announced June 9, I finally received yesterday my very first iPhone.
For someone who has a cell phone blog and is a huge Apple fan, this is ludicrous. I lived vicariously through every step of the iPhone launch. From Steve Jobs keynote, to waiting in line in front of an Apple store. I watched David Pogue 's unboxing in bewildered awe and then fell in love with him for singing "I want an iPhone" to the tune of "My Way". How I wished I lived in New York! I have handled and fondled every iPhone I have come close to.
I was patiently waiting for the iPhone to officially launch in Switzerland until I gave up in disgust a couple of month ago. And only this week, following misinformation and many false rumors, a formal announcement was made by Swisscom, 11 months after the US launch date and following announcements made for Latin America, Turkey and the Philippines. So much for Switzerland being cutting edge.
I will always begrudge Swisscom for making us wait so long - and by the way, we are still waiting, they have not given us a launch date. And what made them think that we would not want to experience the very first generation of iPhone?
According to an article published in Le Matin yesterday, 25 000 (unlocked) iPhones are already connected to Swisscom. They were purchased at an average price of $ 800. So Swisscom missed out on $ 20m. I find some consolation in that.
So here it is, an iPhone review - not from the first - but by the last person to buy a first generation iPhone.
I made my long-waited for order special. I ordered my iPhone from Colorwarepc.com, in customized colors and though the delivery time was a little longer than expected - probably because of out-stock issues - it was worth waiting for. It's more than fabulous.
So now, I (too) can touch it's precious screen, I can wipe it's smudges clean, I can watch my friends look and drool. I waited a (very) longtime, but I got mine.
I got an iPhone.
