MPs join fight for mobile-free flights based on bomb fears
According to The Telegraph UK MPs have lent their support to a Telegraph Travel campaign against plans to allow air passengers to use mobile phones during flights.
Their concern is not only about rude and chatty passengers which could lead to air rage, but safety from bombs being detonated by cell phones.
"The Madrid train bombs in 2004 were set off by mobile phones. What will be the security implications of everyone having mobiles switched on at 30,000ft? It can only put even greater pressure on airport security staff," said However Lee Scott, a member of the Transport Select Committee and Conservative MP for Ilford North.
It is a fear shared by Telegraph readers: "With the present security situation, in which it appears that bombs can be detonated by mobile phones, it seems a foolish and retrograde step to install equipment that will allow them to be used on aircraft," wrote Philip Pepper.
