Communication tools turn employees into cyberloafers. Study

Globe and Mail reports that Communications tools, such as text messaging and social networking, are turning employees into "cyberloafers" who are distracted from their jobs during the working day.

"An on-line survey by the Centre for the Study of Media Technology and Culture an affiliate of Lancaster University, found:

-- 25 per cent of office employees spend four hours or more each week using the internet for personal purposes.

-- 87 per cent admitting to buying things during work hours

-- 63 per cent said they text-message or e-mail friends or family at least once a day, even though 80 per cent said they felt this made them less productive.
