Solar Jacket Charges Gadgets on the Run
Heavy users of mobile phones, iPods and other portable devices may want to try on B>a new coat lined with solar modules and a battery to charge their gadgets on the fly.
At a fashion show in Florence on Thursday, Italian fashion company Ermenegildo Zegna showed off Solar JKT, the first available luxury jacket with integrated solar power supply.
The solar jacket, developed in an exclusive partnership with Interactive Wear, will be brought onto the market as part of the 2008 spring/summer collection.
The solar modules are mounted on a neoprene collar; the electricity generated from solar energy is transmitted through conducting textile leads and stored temporarily in a buffer battery or fed directly to a connected device.
