Speed dial prevented sex attack on teen

Police are praising a teen who had pre-programmed her cellphone with the emergency 111 number, which they say helped prevent a serious sexual attack. stuff.co.nz reports.

"When the man grabbed her, the teen pushed a speed dial number for 111 on her mobile phone. When the attacker realised what she had done he fled.

... A police spokeswoman said not all mobile phones could be pre-programmed and police advised anyone in danger to dial 111.

It was a great thing for this young woman to do but in many cases it's just as quick for someone to dial 111 and that also over-rides the lock on all phones."
