Lack of emergency information at Virginia Tech
A heartfelt outcry from Justin Oberman on Virginia Tech for not getting emergency information in the hands of the students quickly and efficiently - which could have been done by text messaging.
Especially when companies like Rave Wireless have been specializing in university and college mobile emergency alert systems (utilizing such technologies as SMS and GPS) as well as other university mobile services for three years now.
So many lives could have been saved if these students had been alerted to the first shooting two hours earlier and if measure had been taken to close down the campus.
Rafat Ali on Moco News gives more information, such as the student was Palestinian and the film was shot with a Nokia N70 and that the "University officials were considering using E2campus.com campus-wide alerting system".
Ali points out that Rave Wireless seems like a better option as along with allowing text alerts, it enables college police departments to monitor the locations of students, both on and off campus.
