Barbie fans can SMS her on her birthday

billbam_1936_58307664.jpeg Mattel's flagship property Barbie will celebrate her 48th Birthday today, and the toy manufacturer has decided to get kids involved by allowing them to SMS to a shortcode to send her brithday wishes and also get a reply from her.

I think this offer goes for India only, as the news was reported by Indian Television, and I can't seem to find a similar service offered by the US.

And to file under trivia, some Barbie fun facts :

-- The original Barbie wore a striped bathing suit, heavy eye make-up and sunglasses and sold for three dollars.

-- Collectors say with her original packaging she is now worth U.S. $8,300.

-- More than a billion Barbies have been sold over the years

-- About a million yards of fabric have been used to create her clothes.

-- She has survived more than 500 make-overs, including four face lifts, the last in 1998.

More trivia from the Royal Albert Museum.

-- In 1992, the 700 million Barbie™ dolls and family members sold, placed head to toe, would circle the earth at least 3.5 times.

-- By 1993, Mattel had sold more than 900 million fashions and 1 billion pair of shoes.
