Text messaging traffic set to double by 2010-survey

txtmsg.gif According to Reuters, text messaging will more than double over the next five years to 2.3 trillion messages sent by 2010.

"The number of messages transmitted over SMS systems in 2005 was estimated at 936 billion, according to British market research group Gartner.

"... By far the most messages will continue to be sent in the Asia Pacific region, where Gartner predicts the level of SMS messages will top 1.8 trillion in 2010," it said in a statement.

Wireless messaging is the most successful mainstream mobile data service to have emerged during the 30-year history of the cellular telecoms industry," it added."
