Up to 3,000 UK post offices face axe
Between 2,500 and 3,000 urban and rural post offices - representing a fifth of Britain’s post offices - could be shut down under government-backed plans to be outlined next week, reports the FT.
"The explosion of e-mail and text messaging affected the Post Office’s role in processing mail.
The cuts are likely to be implemented over a number of years.
Royal Mail, the state postal operator that runs the Post Office, said earlier this year that only 4,000 branches were needed for a viable network."
