Technorati woes
I'm a stats addict, and though I said I gave up on Technorati I continue to check out the link count on my blog textually.org. It is such wonderful and useful service, enabling bloggers to measure their popularity and discover new like-minded blogs.
But I really think something is seriously wrong with technorati's link count process, for my own blog, textually.org at least. Numbers continue to go down instead of up. Latest case in point, in the last few hours technorati has dropped another 20 blog links from it's total, (some days it's been as many as 70) though the blog has been linked by both Engadgetand Gizmodo - two of the top 5 blogs which usually bring on a spike in links and stats.
I've also found that whenever I link to a previous (or several previous) related posts in my own blog, I seem to get penalized with a huge drop in blog links. A question I've raised several times with technorati, but have never received an answer.
David Sifry's latest press release on the state of the blogosphere claims that "the total posting volume of the blogosphere has leveled off somewhat" - I can only wonder if this is true. Maybe blogs posting are just not being accounted for accurately.
Also, for overall numbers, the French blogosphere questions the tracking of non-English blogs and seem to disagree; padawan, Loic Le Meur and ifeedyou.
