Commission requests cellphone ban in school zones
Hot on the heels of similar requests made by South Miami and Miami Beach, Miami City officials passed a resolution requesting state legislators to prohibit drivers from using a cellphone while passing through a school zone, reports Miami Herald.
South Miami officials took a stand on the issue in June after a child was killed while crossing the street within a school zone, hit by a driver using a cellphone.
Last month, Miami Beach officials followed with a resolution requesting that the state modify existing laws and adopt legislation to protect children from distracted cellphone-using drivers.
