From Dusk Till Dawn
From Dusk Till Dawn is a visual, interactive installation that tracks mobile communication devices and visualizes them on a public screen.
Central point of the installation is a highly frequented urban spot in the center of Berlin: the Kiosk “Akuna Matata” at the southern exit of the subway station Eberswalder Strasse.
Working with the Kiosk as the central element, a large dynamic projection screen emerges out of its roof. Due to its design, the screen creates the illusion of being an integral part of the Kiosk itself.
A Software discovers nearby Bluetooth devices such as Mobile Phones, Headsets and PDAs and processes the data to a middleware component. The Software identifies the mobile phones’ name, a unique identification address, the first entry and duration in the cell and the device manufacturer.
The visualisation of these parameters occurs in relation to a certain system dividing the screen into three layers lying on top of each other: Ambient Layer, Typography Layer and Intervention Layer.
The first installation takes place in Berlin, Germany at the Kiosk "Akuna Matata" (subway station Eberswalder Strasse) on the evening of August 12 2006.
A project by by students of UAS Potsdam / TU Berlin: Volker Max Meyer, Clemens Bühling, Dorit Mielke, Christian Ruppert, Stephan Kock, Leopold von Bismarck and Steffen Fiedler.
