Spreading rumors by SMS can lead to de-activating cell phone

Chennai Online reports that the Chennai city police (India) have warned those spreading rumours through SMS, that they could have their phones de-activated. "The police pointed out that spreading rumours was punishable under law."

Last May, the police has arrested 138 people in Vadodara for allegedly spreading rumours and instigating violence through SMS.
