Grad student produces cell phone lab coat
According to The Exponent Online, a Purdue University grad student is researching electrotextiles through the use of a special lab coat with multiple antenna taped onto the coat. [via digg]
"The attraction to having multiple antennas worn on a caller's body is that it will lead to better reception and fewer dropped calls.
One way people try to avoid dropped cell phone calls is to move the phone around until the signal becomes stronger. The reason this occurs is because moving the phone can create fewer obstacles between the cell phone tower and the phone.
By wearing multiple antennas, the likelihood that one antenna will receive a clear signal increases. The signal is then relayed a short distance to the phone, producing better reception for the user."
