"Recent deals with Irish rocker Bono, British soccer player David Beckham and Indian actor Abhishek Bachchan are part of Motorola's newest strategy to appeal to markets like China, Brazil and India, the Chicago Tribune reported.

A report released this week by Albert Lin of American Technology Research said the U.S. market for cell phones is down 4 percent this year, and represents just 16 percent of the global market.

Celebrity product endorsements are increasing. Celebrities appeared in 11 percent of television ads worldwide in 2005, Millward Brown research reported.
