Port Authority Cancels Phones On Cops
In what sounds like a retrograde decision and a misguided budget cut effort, NY1 reports that the Port Authority is taking away about 200 cell phones issued to its police officers after the September 11th terrorist attacks.
"The agency says it is asking for about half of the 400 phones handed out after 9/11 to be returned.
A spokesman says taking away the phones won't hurt officers' ability to communicate or compromise security, and says the money going toward the phones could be better spent elsewhere.
Supervisors get to keep their cell phones, and the entire department will still use radios to stay in touch. "
