'Road Spy' service condemned

A company that sends SMS alerts to motorists about speed cameras and random breath testing sites is verging on law evasion and endangering road safety, the NSW government says, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

"Gold Coast-based company Road Spy sends text messages to its customers, alerting them to the location of traffic jams, speed cameras and police blitzes.

... NSW Roads Minister Eric Roozendaal said the Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) was investigating the safety implications of the Road Spy service.

"I am concerned by any service that would see motorists reading SMS messages while driving," Mr Roozendaal said."
