Students get call: Teachers back cell phones

Following New York City Police confiscating cellphones from high school students during a random scanning initiative aimed at purging the school system of weapons, the 100-member executive board of the teachers union voted unanimously last night to back lifting the cell phone ban in city schools, citing the safety concerns of parents. The Daily News reports.

"Students should be able to carry the phones - but not use them in class, the union said. "
