Senator wants to stop telcos owning the Web

The Inquirer reports that Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon has introduced legislation to stop telcos from charging websites for extra bandwidth.

"The law is the opposite to what AT&T, Verizon and other telcos have been lobbying for more more than a year.

According to The New York Times, Wyden's bill - called the Internet Non-Discrimination Act of 2006 - would prevent network operators from giving preferential treatment to their mates."
