Mobile firms to offer instant messaging
A group of the world's major mobile phone companies banded together yesterday to bring instant messaging to mobile phones, reports The Guardian.
"Fifteen networks, including Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile and China Mobile, will allow users to log on to instant messaging - which has been a big hit on the internet, attracting 300 million users worldwide - from the middle of the year.
"This represents the next generation of text-based communications and in many ways the natural evolution of text messaging," said Orange's chief executive, Sanjiv Ahuja.
