Bill bans telephone data sale
The Republican reports that "State Rep. John W. Scibak, D-South Hadley, is co-sponsoring legislation filed in response to the recent nationwide discovery that cell phone records are being sold on the Internet."
"The bill, filed by state Rep. John F. Quinn, D-Dartmouth, that would make the practice a felony punishable by up to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to $20,000.
... There are currently up to 40 Web sites practicing cell phone "pretexting" or selling the call history of cell phones or landline phones, according to Scibak's office, and in most cases, brokers need only a billing address or phone number to obtain records."
