SMS in University Libraries

Quiet-Please-Librarian-Pin.jpeg Underscoring the gathering trend of universities making various services accessible through mobile devices, Oregon State University is now offering text messaging as an aid for students conducting library research, reports ipipi blog.

"As part of an expanding inventory of online tools for library research, the university library's live reference service enables patrons to exchange text messages directly with librarians.

According to The Daily Barometer Online, "the live reference service enables patrons to exchange text messages with librarians. The system also enables the user and the librarian to share a common browser window. Librarians can use the window to point to a location from where the resource researched can be accessed. Librarians can also display particular pages on the patron’s computer."
