67665.jpeg Nicolas Sarkozy, French Minister of the Interior, presidential hopeful and the man who made his mark as an authoritarian interior minister - tough on crime, and tough on immigration - sent his New Year's wishes yesterday by SMS to 70.000 members of his party and ask them to vote via the Internet on some statute modification which would allow them to chose their own candidate for the presidential elections in 2007.

A translation of Nicolas Sarkozy's text message:

"A Very Happy 2006 New Year. My greetings are live on www.u-m-p.org et will be broadcast on LCI Wednesday January 12 at 11am. Don't forget to vote on the reform of the statutes on the UMP wesbite. Nicolas Sarkozy"
