Wifiti: Wireless and Graffiti

appsimage-1.jpg A small company in Somerville, Mass, is reinventing the billboard, according to the Boston Herald.

And it could become an advertiser’s ticket into a hip, young demographic’s pockets.

Loca Moda is combining two powerful phenomena with young consumers: online social networks like MySpace and the ubiquitous cell phone.

In the coming weeks the start-up is rolling out Wifiti (contraction of the words Wireless and Graffiti) — a social bulletin board on large flat screens where folks can post text messages using their cell phones. LocaModa envisions the products in bars, clubs and cafes across the country. The company is rolling out 10 Wifitis nationally, including a test run at Someday Cafe in Somerville.

In a way, Wifiti is modeled after successful Web sites such as Craigslist , where people post messages on everything from finding a roommate to finding a date.

The interactive tool could also serve as a space for posting advertisements or company logos while generating traffic for the store, the company said.

LocaModa caught local attention early in the year when it teamed up with a Cambridge Realtor allowing passers-by to scroll through house listings by using their cell phones."
