Philips targets $20 mobile phone for Chinese market

Dutch electronics giant Philips plans to launch a low-cost mobile phone in China priced at less than 20 dollars between now and 2008, the company said in a statement on Friday, reports the AFP.

Philips has invested in a research and development centre in Shanghai, China, to develop the project and hopes to cash in on burgeoning demand for cheap mobile phones in emerging countries such as China, India, South America and eastern Europe.
