South Korea. Subscribers to make political donations by cell phone

skflag.gif According to Telecoms Korea, SK Telecom and KTF, two top mobile service providers, are offering a new service enabling their subscribers to make political donations through their cell phones. The service starts Thursday.

This donation-by-mobile service, to be provided in cooperation with political parties and the National Election Commission, will provide donors with tax reductions on their donations at the end of the year.

Donations can be made free of charge but 200 won will be charged for each information check. Donations will be added to mobile bills one month later.

The two companies say their services will bring voters a step closer to the political process and help create a transparent culture for political donations take root. "
