Mobiles not disaster answer: expert
A visiting British expert has warned Australian emergency services not to rely on mobile phones in big disasters such as the London transport bombings, reports News.com.au.
"London Ambulance Service chief executive Peter Bradley said mobile networks had effectively shut down after the terrorist strikes as millions of people jammed the system to obtain information and contact loved ones.
...Mr Bradley said the London Ambulance Service was now looking to introduce satellite phones, pagers and mobile data devices to communicate with staff in the field during emergencies."
