Taxi Drivers Protest Plan To Install Mandatory Tracking Devices

173853.jpg Taxi drivers held a rally in Manhattan Monday to protest a plan that would require all city taxis to be equipped with a tracking system, reports NY1.

"Cab owners fear the navigation device could violate their civil rights by spying on them and ticket them for speeding.

The plan also calls for them to pay a $3,000 installation fee and monthly maintenance fees of over $100.

The TLC says the tracking system would be worth the money because it would be used to help find stolen cabs, locate lost property, offer traffic updates through text messaging, and improve service for passengers. They say it will not be used to track drivers".
