Conkered by Txting

1068128523_TSJ6T_im1.jpg According to The Mirror UK, conkers are out and text messaging is in for today's low-energy, hi-tech schoolkids.

"They are shunning traditional playground activities in favour of mobiles and hand-held computers - sparking new health fears. Run-around games such as kiss chase and hopscotch have virtually disappeared.

Instead youngsters like to lean back doing something which requires little or no effort.

A survey reveals a third of six to 12-year-olds reckon a Gameboy-style console is the best way to while away a lunch break. Second favourite is texting, followed by virtual pets.

Less than six per cent said they enjoyed "old-fashioned" skipping, conkers or kiss chase.

The survey was carried out by children's TV channel Nickelodeon as part of their Nicktrition campaign - a healthy lifestyle initiative aimed at children.

The only constant seems to be football - which 10 per cent of youngsters still play, compared to 11 per cent in the 80s."
